TAIWAN, Hsinchu – October 15, 2014 – MediaTek today announced the official opening of its new office in Oulu, Finland, which focuses on developing advanced wireless connectivity modems for the next generation of smart devices.

“Finland has long been recognized as the home of many experienced engineers well-versed in cellular technologies. By opening our new office in Oulu, we hope to be an attractive employer to some of most seasoned engineers and the brightest graduating engineers from local universities” said JS Pan, Deputy General Manager of MediaTek’s Wireless Communications Technology business unit. “Our Finnish team is currently 60 employees strong, and we expect to keep growing over the coming several years.”

In addition, MediaTek has hired local industry veteran Ville Salmi to oversee the office’s research and development (R&D) operations. With extensive experience developing for modem technologies, with Broadcom and Nokia, Salmi will spearhead MediaTek’s Finnish team to develop modem technologies compatible with 4G LTE and beyond, further enriching MediaTek’s expertise in the cellular modem space for smart devices.

Besides the new office in Finland, MediaTek has recently opened new offices in San Diego, United States and Bangalore, India and increased their investment in the Singapore R&D office. These new offices strengthen MediaTek’s capability to deliver a more diversified portfolio of leading technologies that extends beyond mobile, as well as give it better insight into local markets around the world.
